OF EARTH AND INSTINCT — Four Drawings for Amsterdam
I’m delighted to share that I’ve been selected to exhibit at the Dutch Equine Art Fair 2026 in Amsterdam. From 29 October to 1 November, my work will be shown at the Living Horse Museum, within the historic De Hollandsche Manege.
For the fair, I’ve created Of Earth and Instinct: four original drawings exploring horses at liberty, their connection to the landscape and the instinctive bonds of the herd.
Each drawing holds a different mood. A solitary horse pauses among the grasses in Where Stillness Gathers; three horses move together beneath a changing sky in Into the Gathering Storm; two companions share a moment of trust in Kindred Pulse; and three horses rest close together in Wild Repose. Together, the works move through stillness, energy, connection and the reassurance of belonging.
Created entirely freehand in graphite, charcoal and PanPastel on Arches hot-pressed cotton paper, each drawing has been built gradually through layers of tone and expressive marks. Finely observed details sit alongside softer, atmospheric passages, allowing the horses to emerge from their surroundings. The paper’s natural deckled edges remain visible within the oak framing, bringing the character of the materials into the finished presentation.
It means a great deal to bring this collection to Amsterdam and exhibit alongside artists who share a fascination with the horse. After so much time working on these drawings in the studio, I’m looking forward to sharing them in person—the scale, textures and subtle marks are best appreciated up close.
I’ll be at the fair throughout all four public days and would love to meet you, show you the drawings and share the inspiration behind the collection.
