About Janna Cossettini
Janna Cossettini is a North Norfolk based artist whose practice is deeply rooted in a lifelong connection with horses, the British countryside and rural traditions. Working from her rural studio Deckled Edge Ltd, Janna creates equine and wildlife artworks that balance realism with atmosphere, capturing not only the physical presence of her subjects, but also their movement, character and quiet emotional intensity.
Horses remain central to both Janna’s work and everyday life. Through observing and riding within the Norfolk landscape, she draws inspiration from direct experience, exploring the connection between horse, rider and environment. Her equine portraits celebrate strength, freedom, companionship and the subtle psychology of the horse — seeking to reveal individuality and spirit beyond the surface.
A defining theme within Janna’s practice is the dialogue between the equine form and the natural world. Through graphite, charcoal, coloured pencil and oils, she explores the contrast between the strength and presence of the horse and the delicacy, symbolism and fleeting beauty of botanical elements.
Flowers have become an important visual language within her work — not as decoration, but as a way of expressing atmosphere, emotion and connection. Peonies, roses and wild meadow flowers create a space where animal and landscape exist together, reflecting themes of protection, resilience, hope and renewal.
Janna works entirely freehand, without projection or digital shortcuts, building each piece through layered mark-making, tonal development and careful observation. Her practice reflects a deep appreciation for craftsmanship, traditional methods and the enduring relationship between animals, landscape and human experience.
Alongside her equine work, Janna’s wider collections explore British wildlife and rural heritage — from woodland creatures to the quiet moments found within the countryside. Each piece aims to capture more than a likeness; it seeks to preserve a moment, a feeling and a story.
Through her work, Janna invites viewers into moments of stillness and reflection, celebrating the horse not only as an animal, but as a symbol of freedom, sensitivity and emotional presence.

How I came to this point:
I was born in Australia, where my deep love for animals and the outdoors began.
Growing up on a farm at the base of the Kosciuszko National Park, I was surrounded by the raw, untamed beauty of nature—wild brumbies, kangaroos, boars, wombats, kookaburras, and lyrebirds formed the backdrop of my childhood.
From an early age, I was always drawing. That passion led me to earn a BA in Fine Art in Melbourne, before stepping into the world of editorial design as an Art Director for Condé Nast in both Sydney and later London—working on iconic titles such as The World of Interiors and other titles within Vogue Promotions.
Even after two children, a busy creative career, and a move to the UK countryside, I never stopped drawing—or riding horses. Now with my two spaniels by my side (Goose & Tequila), I’ve returned fully to my first love: fine art.
Today, I create large-scale, semi-realistic works that reflect not just what I see—but what I feel. My collections now explore equine beauty, gundogs, deer, game birds, and the traditions of the British countryside. Each piece is made entirely by hand, bringing an authentic, emotional connection to every line I draw.
